Responsibilities of Victims

• To request notifications of date, time, and location of any proceeding 2930.06C
  
  
• To notify the prosecutor in a criminal proceeding or the court in a juvenile proceeding that the victim wishes to have a representative exercise the victim's rights if the victim so chooses (2930.02B)
  
  
• If the victim wishes to receive notifications, to keep the courts, prosecutors, law enforcement, and custodial agency informed as to the current contact information (2930.06D, 2930.16A)
  
  
• To request to be notified of:

                     - delays in the case

                     - of the conviction or acquittal of the defendant

                     - of the dismissal of the complaint

                     - of the filing of an appeal

                     - of the incarceration of the defendant

                     - date of release of the defendant. 2930.12, 2930.15 A, 2930.16A,

• To request the victim impact statement given by the victim be used in the pre-sentence investigation report or disposition investigation report 2930.13B
  
  
• If the defendant is convicted of a sex crime requiring registration, to request notification of registration and registration information, as well as any changes in that information 2950.10 & 2003 OHIO LAWS FILE 29 (Sub. S.B. 5)
  
  
• To file written objections to pre-trial diversion allowed by the prosecutor in the case 2935.36

Responsibility of Law Enforcement

• To provide the victim in writing information about:

• their rights as a victim
• services available to victims such as counseling and temporary housing
• information about protection available to the victim such as protective orders 2930.04(A)(1-4)

• To provide the victim with contact information of the law enforcement officer(s) and prosecutor(s) assigned to investigate and prosecute the case 2930.04(B)(1-3)

• To provide the victim with information regarding the arrest or detention of the defendant and name of the defendant. 2930.05 (A) (1)

• Whether the suspect will be eligible for pre-trial release 2930.05(A)(1-5)

• To inform the victim that the victim may contact law enforcement to inquire into the status of case. 2930.05(A)(5), 2930.04(B)(3)
  
  
• To provide the victim with information regarding reparations for victims and explain the information if so requested. 2743.71
  
  
• In all domestic violence cases, the officer shall respond without undue delay, make a written report, and arrest the primary physical aggressor 2935.032
